After 15 years of successfully, reinventing Cl removal and S removal in oil refineries, CLS decided to also focus R&D efforts on solving contaminant problems affecting the upstream industry.

Mercury occurs naturally in natural gas and oil and can be highly toxic for people’s health and the environment. Because of this, Mercury removal is a necessity when natural gas is either processed or liquefied in a gas processing or LNG plant.

Treatment using CLS N CAP technology, Hg guard absorbent provides the most robust and efficient mercury removal solution that reduces toxicity while protecting equipment and the environment.

Oil prices have been low for an extended period time, forcing oil companies to take a very serious look at costs on existing and future operations. The same cost urgency also applies to producing fields that now demand a practical, efficient, and cost-effective method for removal of Hg and H2S.

CLS has applied its Vari-Zeo technology - tried and tested downstream - to these efforts. In combination with noble metals, CLS has created a very cost-effective material which can remove increased levels of contaminants, with a smaller mass transfer zone (mtz), not susceptible to liquid carryover, and is able to be steamed at discharge. Once again, CLS is reinventing the way contaminants are removed.
